Slide (2018)

Slide wraps warm, chorus-drenched synthesizers and driving drum-machine rhythms around genuinely direct pop songwriting, closer to a lost 1980s radio hit than to vaporwave's more ironic or ambient tendencies. "Make It Forever" carries that directness at its clearest, its shimmering hook riding a steady pulse that never lets the song's nostalgia curdle into pure pastiche. The production stays lush throughout without ever feeling like an exercise in genre imitation. It remains the album most responsible for carrying Clanton's version of vaporwave's warmth to an audience well beyond that scene's original internet home.

Slide · 2018

George Clanton began releasing music in the early 2010s within the vaporwave scene before pushing his own sound toward a warmer, more song-based synth-pop, eventually founding the label 100% Electronica to release his own records and those of like-minded artists. His music pulls together the atmosphere of 1980s and '90s synthesizer pop with a distinctly present-day sense of nostalgia for those decades' textures rather than a straightforward revival of them.

Slide, his second album, arrived in 2018 and became the record that carried him furthest beyond vaporwave's internet-native subculture into a wider synth-pop audience. Clanton has continued releasing music and running his label steadily since, also touring behind his records more extensively than most artists to emerge from the same scene. His catalog has increasingly positioned him as a bridge between vaporwave's originating community and a broader synth-pop audience that arrived without knowing that history.
