Fake It Flowers (2020)

Fake It Flowers is where beabadoobee traded the bedroom recordings that made her name for a full band and a wall of 90s guitar, and it is the record most people mean when they name her. "Care" opens it with a fuzzed-out hook and a shrug of a chorus that owes as much to Veruca Salt as to anything from her own decade. "Sorry" and "Together" show the range underneath the distortion, moving from near-whispered verses into choruses that arrive at full volume. The self-consciously retro sound drew comparisons she later resisted, but it gave her early intimacy a scale it had not had before.

Fake It Flowers · 2020

beabadoobee, born Beatrice Laus in the Philippines and raised in London, began releasing hushed, lo-fi bedroom-pop songs while still a teenager, catching wider attention when one of her earliest tracks was later sampled on a global streaming hit. Signed to Dirty Hit, the label behind the 1975, she moved quickly from four-track intimacy toward a fuller, guitar-driven sound steeped in 1990s alternative rock and shoegaze.

Beatopia, her second album, arrived in 2022, named after an imaginary world she'd invented as a child and abandoned as she got older before reclaiming it as the record's organizing idea. She has continued expanding her sound since, including a 2026 standalone single made with the Marías that pushed further into dream-pop atmosphere outside the album cycle entirely. Her catalog now reads as a fairly rapid education in public, each release audibly further from where the last one left off.
